FDA Plans to Regulate Sunscreen Labeling

Next year, the FDA will implement regulations to standardize labeling of sun protection products.

The new regulations will probably include steps to:

• Establish standards for testing effectiveness of sun protection products
• Require labeling that accurately reflects test results
• Limit maximum SPF value on the label to SPF 50+

The FDA will also evaluate dosage on products like spray-on sunscreen, and help sunscreen manufacturers test and accurately label their products based on the new standards.
