Makers of Restylane Launch Skincare Product Line

Friday, April 30th, 2010

A new line of Restylane skincare products has been launched in Sweden and Europe.  Q-Med announced the new product line last month during the World Congress for Anti-Aging Medicine in Monaco.

Restylane skin care products are said to contain the same stabilized hyaluronic acid technology used in Restylane wrinkle fillers, an addition they say adds a pleasing consistency while promoting moisture and luster in the skin.

On their website, Q-Med explains the new Restylane skincare line:

“The secret to beautiful skin is balanced skin hydration combined with a healthy and protective skin barrier. Restylane Skincare combines these two qualities in an innovative series of creams [that] supplement the effect of injectable Restylane products.”

We will be sure to let you know if these products become available in Tucson.

Cutting Edge Technology: TNS Recovery Complex

TNS =Tissue Nutrient Solution

-For All Skin Types, All Skincare Regimens for revolutionary anti-aging

Derived from wound-healing research where bio-engineered skin was developed for severe skin burns.  The derivative of the bio-engineered skin (Derma Graft is now widely used in burn centers) is a complex of human growth factors found in healthy young skin.

TNS is comprised of NouriCel-MD which is 110 growth factors and is 93.6% active ingredients of the Recovery Complex.  That compares to a typical 5% in store-bought skin care.  TNS is only available through medical offices.  93% of women surveyed are repeat clients of TNS! Try it- you’ll like it!

Growth Factors vs. Growth Hormones:

Human Growth Factors work on LOCAL tissue by aiding in growth, healing and regeneration.   Human Growth Hormones have a general effect on ALL tissues and organs of the body.

What does it do for you?

This activates your body’s own healing mechanisms to reverse sun-damage, stress, and aging. Your skin will begin to heal and put back what time has taken away. Think of a baby’s skin that is luminous, plump, and healthy. You will see a difference in your skin’s texture, softness, clarity and tone immediately.

Over continued use you will see a noticeable decrease in your wrinkles (at least 57% difference!) less redness and irritation (87% difference!) healthier skin and a fantastic adjunct to any other procedures, surgeries, or simply your existing anti-aging regimen!

Good Nutrition is a Fundamental Part of Anti-Aging

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Does your skin love what’s in your shopping basket? Maybe, if you’ve included nutritionsalmon, blueberries, tomatoes, carrots, asparagus, broccoli and other super foods.

Why? Let’s start at the beginning.

We live in an atmosphere loaded with oxygen; it is in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and in the food we eat. Unfortunately, oxygen is corrosive and, acting with other agents, will eventually cause things to oxidate and rust. In your body, oxygen has a natural tendency to combine with other processes in the skin to produce what scientists call “free radicals,” the enemies of your skin that attack at the cellular level causing inflammation.

Such inflammation can make your pores look bigger and skin look dull, discolored, or yes — aged. Wrinkles, acne, and even eczema are also related to the damaging effects of oxidation-related inflammation.

What can you do to slow down or prevent these processes? Consider these facts and act accordingly:

  • Protein is essential for skin repair.
  • Vitamins A, C, and E are “antioxidant rich” adversaries of the free radicals and Vitamin C in particular helps the body naturally manufacture collagen.
  • Selenium is a mineral that experts agree is critical to the production of glutathione, another enemy of free radicals.
  • Thiamine is a B vitamin that helps skin cells function normally.
  • Zinc assists epidermal cell growth.
  • New research suggests that Lycopene may play a significant role in maintaining smooth skin. (read more about this on Daily Beauty)

Diet is in our control, and the more we know, the more we can influence the natural processes that make us look older. But as usual, permanent lifestyle changes and proven treatments are the way to go, not fads or gimmicks.

Ready for 2010? Get Ready With Resolutions for Better Skin Care

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Before 2010 gets here, make some promises to benefit your healthy skin; without skincare_resolutionsprocrastination and without excuses, let’s resolve to take the following steps:

1: Let a professional aesthetician teach you how to use the right skin care products – in the right order, at the right times. Don’t cherry pick products in the drug store, buying every trendy, nicely packaged new product.  Instead, pare down, simplify and do the right thing. One aesthetician, one set of products chosen just for your particular skin, and one place to return to for periodic facials and replenishing of products. Got that?  One. It’s called skin care monogamy.

2. Gift yourself with a series of microdermabrasion treatments to soften fine lines and acne scars, minimize or eliminate sunspots, stimulate collagen production and give your face a youthful glow. Go every 2 weeks or so for a quick microdermabrasion session and reap the full benefits of more even, younger-looking skin.

3. Safeguard your investment in microdermabrasion by scheduling touch-up sessions every 2 or 3 months. A session only takes an hour, it’s relaxing and pleasant, and your skin will look younger and more radiant all year long.

4. Get serious about using sun block to protect your investment. Obagi makes a great one that won’t block pores, make the skin feel greasy or cause unwanted breakouts. Use it regularly according the directions; you don’t want premature wrinkles, blotchy skin or an increased risk of skin cancer.

Product Feature: Minus-Sol SPF 30 (Ivory)

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Arizona_minus_solOur patients have made this product a best seller at Dr. Lo’s office. We are the only doctor’s office in Tucson to carry this luxurious, water and sweat resistant sun protection cream. It comes in a flesh tone ivory color to act as a light foundation.

The silky smooth cream formula comes from the enhanced “chitosan” added to its base. Minus-Sol is oil-free, making it non-comedogenic and perfect for oily or sensitive skin. It contains micronized zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

Minus-Sol is safe for children older than 6 months of age and retains its SPF 30 protection for more than 80 minutes of water activity. You can even use it all over your body.  Remember, it is very important to wear sun protection every day in Arizona to protect against skin cancer and to prevent the signs of aging. Why not use a product that leaves your skin soft, supple and feeling great?

New Lasers Provide Safe Hair Removal for All Skin Types

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

laserWe don’t think hair is un-sexy. But when it’s anywhere other than the top of your head, that’s another matter. These days, there are many options to remove unwanted body hair from your face, legs, back, bikini line, arms, and even underarms; shaving and plucking are always an option; electronic tweezers, radiofrequency tweezers, waxing, creams, and electrolysis might be offered to you by other practitioners. For the most part, these are temporary solutions. The permanent method – the best method is laser hair removal.

Lasers send a low-energy beam through the skin. The dark pigment (melanin) present in the shaft of the hair follicles absorbs the laser beam. Initial hair reduction is seen immediately after treatment. Permanent results require repeated treatments because of the hair growth cycles.
There are different types of lasers that can be used to remove unwanted hair. The first lasers approved for hair reduction by FDA were the ruby, alexandrite and diode lasers. But these could only be used on select individuals – not those with tans or ethnic skin.

The newest lasers – the YAG laser for example – have longer wavelengths and therefore, the ability to treat darker skin types, including African-American skin, Asian skin, and those with a tan. One of the biggest benefits is the convenience; immediately following your hair removal treatment you can return to work, school or any of your regular activities.  Contact our Tucson, Arizona office for more information.

Summer Skin Treatments to Look Your Best

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

If you’re a resident, I probably don’t need to tell you that summer in Tucson, Arizona is hot! The need to protect your skin is even more pressing here, and so is the need to keep your skin healthy. Choosing the right treatments can prevent premature aging to keep your skin healthy and looking its best.

If your skin is in need of rejuvenation, a few microdermabrasion treatments each year can make a big difference.  Microdermabrasion removes the top layer of skin to reveal a fresh, healthy layer underneath. It also stimulates collagen production, which improves skin elasticity.  It’s an easy procedure that can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and even some forms of skin damage.  If you use skin products (we recommend medical grade), it can increase penetration, so your daily skin care regimen is more effective.  For many patients, this combination of at-home skin care and microdermabrasion is all it takes to achieve smoother, more silky looking skin.

If you exhibit age spots, zap them away with a laser or Chemical Peel. Rejuvenate your skin while reducing or removing age spots.

Professional Facials are another great way to remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface, and they feel great! If you don’t need an intensive treatment but want to freshen up your look, a facial may be the right treatment choice.

Sunscreen is important any time of year, but especially during these hot summer months. Choosing the right sunscreen for your face – one that addresses your skin type and skin conditions – is not always easy.  Use a sunscreen every day. For days spent mostly indoors, use a foundation with an SPF15 or higher. For outdoors you want at least an SPF45 that is waterproof or water-resistant. The right sunscreen can prevent sun damage, skin problems, and even skin cancer.  Harmful UV rays can damage skin cells deep within the skin’s surface, making your cells vulnerable to toxins (free-radicals) in the environment. We can help you select the right sunscreen for your skin.

Self conscious about unwanted facial or body hair? Laser hair removal can erase excess hair to keep your skin looking smooth and buff, reducing the need for shaving and waxing.

Let us help you maintain the health of your skin. Come visit us at About Faces Cosmetic Surgery to find out which treatment will work best for your skin type; then look forward to looking hot all summer long!
