The Botox Treatment

When Dr. Lo is ready to begin your Botox treatment, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed at and around the chosen points of injection. The total time for your treatment should usually last no longer than 15 minutes. While a topical anesthetic may be available for your Botox treatment, it is usually not necessary. Depending on the degree of the wrinkle to be treated and the size of the underlying muscle, varying dosage sizes may be necessary.

For a larger muscle, a larger dose of Botox will be necessary to be effective. Using a special technique, Dr. Lo will use a syringe to inject the Botox solution into the muscle. When injected into a specific muscle, Botox blocks the chemical signal from the nerve to the muscle. This decreases the contraction of the muscle, which causes the overlying fine line or wrinkle to smooth out.

Aftercare and Results

One of the perks of Botox is that following treatment, you will experience virtually no downtime. However, Dr. Lo will give you specific aftercare instructions that should be followed closely to ensure an ideal result. He will ask you to remain upright for six hours and to also avoid alcohol. If you have any of the following symptoms, you should notify Dr. Lo and he will advise you: difficulty swallowing, breathing or talking.

After four to eight days, you should see the final, beautiful results of your Botox treatment with Dr. Lo. The reduction in the treated wrinkles can last anywhere from four to six months, at which point you may wish to return to Dr. Lo's office for touch-up treatments.

Botox Alternatives
