It is common for people to experience a gradual descent of the forehead skin as they age. This fallen facial skin may begin to hood your eyes and show deep wrinkles. With our advanced techniques in facial plastic surgery, you don't have to live with such a condition. Many of our patients have had their forehead and brow restored to a natural, more attractive position through endoscopic brow lift surgery.
Dr. Lo performs brow lift surgery to restore the natural position of the forehead and eyebrows, correcting several age-related imperfections with one procedure. You might consider brow lift surgery if you experience:
When the skin of the brow and its underlying tissue are lifted, it can have a very dramatic result. For women, your eyebrows can will sit higher and have a youthful arch. Deep wrinkles will be smoothed out on your forehead and between your eyes. A brow lift can improve crow's feet next to the eyes. Your eyes may stand out and appear more youthful once they are not hooded with the excess skin of the fallen brow.
You should be aware that the effect of a brow lift on the eyes is not as pronounced as a specific eyelid surgery. Dr. Lo specializes in eyelid surgeries. If you wish to achieve significant improvement to your eye area, speak to the doctor about combining the brow lift with an eyelid surgery.
The multiple, small incisions from a brow lift are easily hidden in the hair line. However, if you have a very high hairline or suffer from male pattern baldness, a brow lift may not be advisable since the scars cannot be hidden in the hairline. Dr. Lo will confirm if you are a good candidate for a brow lift, or if your hairline indicates that another procedure might be more appropriate.
Surgery usually requires less than two hours in our surgical center or in-office surgical suite. To provide the most comfortable experience possible, we use local anesthesia with intravenous sedation.
Modern brow lift surgery is often performed with the aid of an endoscope, a tiny camera that allows Dr. Lo to view your underlying facial tissues. Dr. Lo works through 4-5 tiny incisions in the hairline, resulting in small scars that are small and well hidden. The procedure requires removal, remodeling, and repositioning of a few select tissues that reside in the brow area. The skin is then smoothed out and sutured in a slightly elevated location, to produce a natural, yet dramatically improved result.
The aging process affects every patient in a slightly different way, so a different surgical approach may be required at times. To provide the best results, Dr. Lo will often combine a brow lift with eyelid surgery, a midface lift, or a skin resurfacing procedure.
Brow lift recovery time is generally about 7-10 days to allow your incisions to heal. During this time you will rest and care for the small incisions made during your brow lift. If you get non-dissolvable sutures, they will be removed after about a week.
After a brow lift, the skin of your forehead will be lifted. Wrinkles and lines will be diminished and smoothed out. If the sagging skin on your forehead was hooding your eyes, your eyes can appear wider. After your brow lift, you will have long-lasting corrections to the signs of aging on your forehead. In the years that follow, the skin on your brow can still change as you age.
It is important that you know that following your brow lift surgery, you will have temporary changes to the mobility of your forehead. Reduced mobility or loss of sensation in your forehead is not a permanent condition, but can persist while the skin and muscles of your forehead heal.
