Mid Face Lift

With aging, the cheeks (midface) sag and a groove develops below the eyes. The mid face lift improves these problems. Patients frequently also notice a decrease in the bulging of their lower eyelids after the procedure. It is a phenomenal way to restore the cheeks and mid face to their natural youthful position. Many patients comment on how natural looking this lift looks. Dr. Lo is a world expert in this area, having written one of the first published articles on this new technique. Patients are usually in their middle forties and up when having this procedure.

Procedure Description

The midface is lifted using an endoscope inserted through small incisions, then held in place using stitches buried under the skin. Once the midface has healed into its new position, the stitches dissolve. The beauty of this technique is that there are no visible scars, because they are hidden in the hairline and inside the mouth. The use of the endoscope also minimizes the length of the scars. Recovery time is about 10 to 14 days. The surgery takes just under two hours and is done under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. It can be done in the surgical center or the office surgical suite.

Additional Information

Cosmetic midface lifts are not covered by insurance. In rare cases, insurance may cover the surgery if it is done to treat facial paralysis, pulling down of the lower eyelids from prior cosmetic surgery, or severe ectropion (turning out of the eyelid). Authorization must to be obtained prior to surgery.

As one of the few surgeons doing this procedure, Dr. Lo was featured on Tucson’s KOLD-TV news. He performed the endoscopic midface lift on television on Peggy Pico, KOLD’s medical news reporter. The surgery was a success and Ms. Pico loves her results.
