The eyelid lift, also known as blepharoplasty, involves removing excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids, resulting in a more youthful, alert and rested appearance for the patient.

Dr. Lo is recognized as an expert in the field of eyelid surgery and many patients are referred to him for a second opinion or for correction of previous eyelid surgery. Eyelid surgery is done in patients starting in their late forties and older. Occasionally, some patients may be younger due to inherited problems. Before and after eyelid lift photos

Procedure Description

Upper eyelid surgery is done by making an incision in the crease of the eyelid, thereby hiding the scar. The excess skin and fat is removed and the incision is closed with sutures. Lower eyelid fat is removed from an incision inside the eyelid, and if skin needs to be removed, a small incision is made just below the eyelashes. Wrinkles around the eyelids can be treated with simultaneous laser resurfacing or a chemical peel.

This procedure takes approximately 45 minutes for the upper or lower eyelids and about one and a quarter hour for both upper and lower lids. The surgery is performed in the office or surgery center under local anesthesia, or sometimes with intravenous sedation. Downtime is usually 7 days, during which there is mild swelling. Pain is minimal.

Additional Information

When the brows are excessively droopy, it can appear that there is even more upper eyelid tissue. In this case, a brow lift should be performed in addition to the eyelid surgery. Usually, eyelid surgery should not be done more than twice as multiple blepharoplasties would prevent adequate closure of the eyelids.

Concurrent Procedures

This surgery can be performed at the same time as other procedures, such as a brow lift, face lift, midface lift, laser resurfacing, or chemical peel.
