Radiesse

radiesse in tucson arizona cosmetic surgery office

Radiesse is composed of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) microspheres, which are suspended in a water-based gel. When injected into specific areas of the face, this long-lasting dermal filler can treat virtually any type of wrinkle.

Radiesse provides a beautiful cosmetic correction, and cosmetic surgeons like Dr. Lo appreciate it for its ease of use, durability and bio-compatibility.

Is Radiesse a Good Fit for Me?

Radiesse is FDA approved to treat moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, but can be used to successfully diminish nearly any type of surface line or wrinkle. Most frequently, Dr. Lo injects Radiesse to treat deep nasolabial folds, the lines that can run from the edges of your nose down to the corners of your mouth. Other common uses for Radiesse in Dr. Lo's practice include facial contouring, such as the cheeks, chin and temples, as well as in augmentation, like the lips.

Dr. Lo may also use Radiesse for some off-label treatments including marionette lines, nasal contouring and the temporary correction of depressed scars on the face.

During your appointment at About Faces Cosmetic Surgery, you will be asked about thhe specific wrinkles, lines and areas of concern. Based on this, we will carefully plan where to place the injections of Radiesse to achieve an ideal cosmetic result.

The Radiesse Treatment

When you are ready to undergo your Radiesse treatment with Dr. Lo, the injection site and the surrounding skin will be cleansed with an antiseptic to minimize the risk for infection. In order to minimize discomfort, a topical anesthetic may be applied to your skin prior to treatment. Alternatively, an ice pack may be applied for about five minutes before and after treatment to achieve a similar effect.

Using a fine needle, Dr. Lo will carefully inject the Radiesse solution below the dermis of your skin. The special techniques used when administering Radiesse may include linear threading, fanning or crosshatching. One of the benefits of Radiesse is the immediate correction of the wrinkle where it acts as a scaffolding to support your skin. To maximize this effect, as well as to ensure proper placement, Dr. Lo may gently massage the injection site.

Radiesse Treatment Aftercare and Results

After your Radiesse treatment, you may experience some swelling, itching or bruising of the injection site, though as long as you keep your head elevated and apply an ice pack, these effects should dissipate soon. While Radiesse side effects are few, they may also include mild irritation of the injection site as well as discoloration or tenderness. These should subside within two days.

You can expect to see the results of your Radiesse treatment last for 10 to 14 months. You will likely want to return to our Tucson practice for touch-up treatments of Radiesse, which you may do after 12-18 months.

Alternatives to Radiesse

Other injectable fillers that may achieve a similar effect include Restylane and Juvederm. Additionally, Dr. Lo offers injectable Botox which can also quickly reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
