Restylane is the most popular wrinkle filler in North America and in more than 70 countries around the world. At About Faces Cosmetic Surgery in Tucson, we offer Restylane as an excellent choice for non-invasive correction of facial wrinkles and folds.
Restylane contains hyaluronic acid, which binds with the naturally-occurring hyaluronic acids in your skin when injected. Hyaluronic acid (or HA) is an important structural component of your skin. It works to promote volume and fullness of your facial features, helping to restore youthfulness.
The Restylane solution acts like a kind of scaffolding under your skin, filling in depressions like lines and wrinkles to diminish them and help you look more vibrant, rested and younger.
Since its introduction more than a decade ago, Restylane has been FDA approved to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is often used to fill the deep lines that can sometimes run from the edges of your nose down to the corners of your mouth, lines commonly called the nasolabial folds.

When you meet with Dr. Lo for your consultation about Restylane in Tucson, the doctor will evaluate the areas of concern to see if Restylane is a suitable treatment. After you have discussed the areas of concern with Dr. Lo, he will carefully choose injection points that will provide optimal wrinkle correction.
Before Dr. Lo begins your Restylane treatment, the injection site and surrounding areas of skin will be cleansed with an antiseptic. An anesthetic (or numbing cream) is usually not necessary for Restylane treatment as the solution contains lidocaine, but some options like topical anesthetics or a nerve block may be available. Using a special technique, Dr. Lo will inject the Restylane solution into and below the dermis of your skin. Once injected, the Restylane will combine with the hyaluronic acids in your skin and provide a look and feeling of suppleness. Dr. Lo may gently massage the injection site to ensure proper placement of the solution.
After your Restylane treatment, Dr. Lo will have specific aftercare instructions for you to follow. You will note that the injection site may feel overly full for up to a day after treatment. During this time, Dr. Lo will instruct you to avoid exercise, alcohol and exposure to sun and heat as these may increase the risk for irritations like redness, swelling or itching at the injection site. If you do experience swelling, placing an ice pack over the area may work to minimize it.
You should be able to witness the cosmetic improvements made by the Restylane treatment for up to one year. Over this time, however, your body will naturally break down the Restylane solution. Because of this, you may wish to return for touch-up injections to maintain your results.
Some side effects may include those listed above as well as tenderness or bruising. As with any injection treatment, there is some risk of infection at the treated site.
About Faces Cosmetic Surgery in Tucson provides additional non-surgical wrinkle treatments like the hyaluronic acid-based filler, Juvederm, as well as injections of Botox Cosmetic Tucson. Some patients may also benefit from laser skin resurfacing, which may also work to diminish visible signs of aging on the face.
