The current paradigm shift in cosmetic
surgery of minimally invasive facial rejuvenation is being
driven by new and exciting technologies, at the forefront
of which is the thread
lift. Since the mid 1990’s,
surgeons have been experimenting with barbed sutures in
an attempt to correct facial laxity. The theory is that
the barbed sutures are placed under the skin with tension
and pulled, lifting the skin and thereby correcting the
laxity.
There have been various forms of barbed sutures beginning
with the ones devised by the Russian cosmetic surgeon, Dr.
Marlen Sulamanedze, who created the Aptos (anti-ptosis) threads.
These Aptos threads were effective in rejuvenating facial laxity
in younger to middle aged patients. His invention started
the revolution of minimally invasive face lifts.
More recently, Contour Threads are the latest evolution
of the barbed thread lifts. Developed by a plastic surgeon,
these new threads were approved by the FDA in March of 2005.
They offer another effective modality in the armamentarium
for minimally invasive rejuvenation of the face.
Since 2003, Dr. Lo has been offering these thread
lift techniques
at About Faces Cosmetic Surgery and is widely considered
an expert in them. He has had many satisfied patients come
from across the country to take advantage of his expertise.
