While shaving and waxing are short term solutions, they can be messy, time consuming and lead to skin irritation. How does Clarity work?
The Clarity uses a highly focused beam of energy to destroy the hair follicle leaving skin smooth and free of hair. Treatments can be done in much less time than other laser hair removal treatments because of the high repetition rate and the customizable treatment spot size. For larger areas like the back or legs, the laser spot size can be instantly adjusted to treat the maximum number of follicles with fewer passes of the laser. This translates to quicker, more targeted treatments for our patients in fewer visits.
Who is a candidate?
The Clarity dual wavelength laser includes both a long-pulsed 755nm Alexandrite and 1064nm Nd:YAG which makes it capable of treating a wide range of skin colors and tones. While older lasers typically excluded many patients seeking hair removal due to only treating the darkest brown or black hair on light skin types, the Clarity is suitable for both lighter skin and darker skin types. While Clarity works on most skin types, not all hair color is suitable for removal. Blonde, light red, white, and gray hair does not contain enough pigment for the Clarity Laser to work.
How many treatments are needed?
Laser hair removal is a multi-treatment procedure with each treatment targeting hair at the optimal phase, the anagen phase, of the growth cycle. Treatments are scheduled every 4-8 weeks depending on the area being treated, and at each treatment the hair follicles are destroyed leaving skin free of hair and smoother. Traditional laser hair removal systems often require 8 treatments or more, but the Clarity results can be seen after as few as 3-4 treatments. While this varies from patient to patient, we typically recommend between 5-6 treatments for best results.
What is the treatment like?
Patients arrive with clean skin and the area shaved. Clarity treatments are quick and convenient, with minimal pain. Some patients may experience brief, intermittent “snapping” sensations as the laser energy destroys unwanted hair but this is typically well tolerated. Clarity also offers increased levels of comfort with its hybrid cooling system: traditional air cooling coupled with a built-in cryogenic spray that instantly cools and sooths the treatment area. The built-in cooling mechanism instantly dissipates the heat and protects the patient’s skin during treatment. Every pass of the laser is more comfortable due to this revolutionary dual cooling method, and no topical numbing agent is needed.
Is there downtime?
Patients may experience mild temporary redness (similar to a sunburn) and sensitivity in the treated areas which can last from 24 to 48 hours. For best results and most effective healing we ask you to avoid strenuous workouts, heat and hot water, and make up during the first 24-hours. A cold compress can be applied if skin feels hot. Skin may feel tight or dry after treatment, moisturizer (for sensitive skin or post procedure) can be applied 24-hours after treatment. Continue to keep skin clean and use a broad-spectrum SPF to protect the sensitized skin. Do not pluck, wax or tweeze.
